This article discusses a study conducted at the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant. Because filtered water turbidity at the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant is consistently less than 0.1 ntu, particle counting was used to evaluate changes in coagulant dosages and their effect on filter performance. The goal of coagulant optimization trials at the plant was to reduce the range of particle counts in filtered water and to produce a finished water of more consistent quality. Methods and results of the study are discussed. Includes 17 references, tables, figures.
