Pretreatment of drinking water with potassium permanganate can result in the oxidation of THM precursors. Additionally, the manganese dioxide precipitate that is generated by the reduction of permanganate can adsorb THM precursors. Chlorination and manganese dioxide adsorption studies are discussed.
