Four quality assurance samples and four tap water samples were analyzed using membrane electrodes, a potentiometric electrode, a continuous total chlorine analyzer, and an amperometric titrator. Total and free chlorine concentrations were measured. This article presents statistical analyses of the results obtained by different analysts with these instrumental methods. The total chlorine analyzer was shown to be analyst-independent and the method of choice when continuous or many total chlorine analyses are required. Results utilizing the potentiometric electrode vary, as do those of the amperometric membrane electrodes. Includes 25 references, tables.
