Most utility managers are aware that operationalreliability is threatened by the loss of knowledgeable,experienced staff members - many of whom are BabyBoomers. Typically, utilities have weak processes forknowledge capture, knowledge management, andtransfer, and they have relied on the knowledge ofexperienced staff members rather than documentationor training programs. Additionally, most utility managersare not well-versed in either knowledge preparednessor information technology (IT).
