Faced with an emerging, highly competitive environment in the utility industry,Colorado Springs Utilities of Colorado Springs, Colorado, proactively identifieddiversity management as a business issue and strategic direction. ColoradoSprings Utilities (CSU) created a diversity management team, DELTA, to researchthe strategies needed to change the corporate culture at CSU to be an effectiveand competitive organization. DELTA Team's first initiative was to define theprocess of managing diversity by: examining CSU's organizational corporateculture; investigating documented best practices; and, providing a three-yearDiversity Management Plan to CSU's Executive Management Team with criticalsuccess factors for evaluative measures. Well into its fourth year, DELTA Teamcontinues to accomplish diversity initiatives. This paper describes CSU'sdiversity management and mentoring pilot programs. Includes 3 references.
