The objective of this study was to evaluate commercial nanofiltration (NF) membranes for removal of natural organic matter (NOM) and bromide from surface waters. By using different NF membranes and surface waters, the impact of water quality, membrane type and recovery on removal efficiency was qualitatively assessed. Increasing the recovery, increases the bulk solute concentration at the membrane surface. In this study, six NF membranes were evaluated for their potential to reject NOM and bromide from two surface waters. The membranes had different molecular weight cutoffs (MWCO) and chemical compositions. The two surface waters exhibited different water quality characteristics. Bromide removal data is available for 2 membranes and one surface water. The Rapid Bench Scale Membrane Test (RBSMT) was utilized for the experiments. Includes 18 references, tables, figures.
