This document is an investigation of pesticide removal by reverse osmosis (RO) membrane using pilot-scale performance evaluation. The fundamental pesticide rejection models, such as diffusion-controlled models, are also evaluated in this paper. Twelve common agricultural pesticides were investigated in this study. The pesticides were analyzed by HPLC with solid phase extraction (SPE). Samples were filtered through a regenerated cellulose filter disc and then adjusted to pH 2.3 ¿ 0.05 with 30% (v/v)phosphoric acid. The SPE column is composed of PLRP, a porous polymer sorbent capable of extracting pesticides from a 90% acetonitrile solution. Reversal of flow and change of eluent composition extracts the pesticide components from the surface of the SPE. The components are then backwashed through a silica-based column which affects their separation. Chromgraphic separation occurs as each component interacts with the column. As each component emerges at its own retention time, it is subsequently detected by HPLC using a photodiode array detector. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
