In 1994, the City of Seymour, Texas, authorized a study to reduce the nitrate concentration in the groundwater to less than the maximum contaminant level (MCL). Processes that reduce hardness and total dissolved solids (TDS), as well as nitrate, were included in the study. Four treatment processes were considered: ion exchange for nitrate removal only; ion exchange for nitrate removal and softening; reverse osmosis; and, electrodialysis reversal. Includes tables.
