The Bexar Metropolitan Development Corporation has initiated a project at San Antonio,Texas. The DBO is a 9 mgd (34,000 m3/day) production capacity plant, which supplies250,000 inhabitants of San Antonio. United Water Services, Infilco Degr¿montInc. and Montgomery Watson have built the water treatment plant and will operate it for the next 20 years. Aqualifying pilot testing on site confirmed that the Superpulsator(R), a sludge blanket clarifierfrom Infilco Degr¿mont Inc., placed before the Aquasource UF membrane met the BexarMetropolitan Development Corporation's expectations in terms of water quality, reliabilityand cost effectiveness. Thus, the Aquasource UF membrane has been selected among threedifferent membrane suppliers. The facility was started in December 1999 as scheduled. Boththe client and the operator are satisfied with the 1st year of operation. This paper presents datafrom the pilot plant studies and the full-scale commissioning phase. Both water quality andoperational data are discussed. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
