This document assesses the use of particle counters as a means of monitoring themembrane integrity at the Olivenhain Water Treatment Plant. The plant, located inNorthern San Diego County, recently commissioned a 25 MGD surface water treatmentsystem using immersed membranes as the primary treatment process. This paper shows how particle concentration measured in the permeate can be used as asensitive and rapid integrity monitoring method. Calculations are provided showing howparticle count measurements can be used to calculate the Log Reduction Value of themembrane system. Includes table, figures, appendix.
