Membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment of wastewater from a seasonal operated lodge was installed as anupgrade to a conventional septic system. The high quality effluent generated from theMBR allowed the lodge to increase wastewater discharge flows to the existing subsurfaceadsorption system thus preserving site acreage for guest units and support structures. The MBR is operated from May through October and stored off-line during the wintermonths. A flexible design allows system capacity to be matched with the variable flowsthat occur during seasonal operation. Only limited attention by a skilled operations staffwith little formal wastewater treatment experience is required to produce a consistenthigh quality effluent. Includes tables, figures.
