The current ongoing study investigates the use of forward osmosis (FO) to concentrate anaerobic digesters (AD) centrate atthe Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility (TMWRF) in Reno, Nevada. Themain objectives of this study were to determine the feasibility of using FO to concentrateAD centrate, to optimize the operating conditions of a FO system for AD centrate, todevelop an economical model and to determine the cost effectiveness of the FO process,and to design a pilot system for treatment of a side stream at the treatment plant.
