Successful implementation of low pressure membrane systems using multiple contracts requiresconsideration of the unique complexities of the technology and the contracting method to addressthese concerns and to limit potential conflicts and pitfalls. This paper reviews the following fourcritical areas of concern that need to be thoughtfully addressed in contracting for successfulimplementation of low pressure membrane systems:identification of scope of supply and contractor interface limits; requirements for component delivery and transfer;commissioning and troubleshooting activities; and, provisions in the case of defective equipment or work. These critical areas of concern are discussed using experiences from the implementation of a60 million-gallon-per-day (MGD) submerged membrane treatment system for the Racine WaterUtility located with Racine, Wisconsin. Includes table.
