The development of low pressure, microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF), membrane process is at an important stage. Thewater treatment community needs to consolidate the dispersed knowledge on these processes intoa single source that can be readily used as a reference to support the transition of membranetechnology to large-scale applications (greater than 100 MGD). In addition, water systemsconsidering smaller applications need a single, reliable and usable source of information onexisting membrane installations to support decisions on determining the suitability of membranesfor their purposes. In order to respond to these needs, a low-pressure membrane knowledge baseis being developed. The knowledge base will provide the drinking water community with avaluable tool to accomplish these important objectives. The paper presents the tasks in thedevelopment of the MF/UF knowledge base and the results of this study. The knowledge base contains three components: survey of literature, survey of vendor installations, and survey of plant owners and operators. Includes 6 references, tables, figures.
