Pure polyamide and zeolite-polyamide nanocomposite membranes were synthesized bythe interfacial polymerization of m-phenylenediamine and trimesoly chloride on a porouspolysulfone support membrane. All synthesized membranes exhibited reverse osmosis-likewater flux and selectivity. Zeolite-polyamide nanocomposite membranes showed higherselectivity and improved hydrophilicity. In addition, when the zeolite nanoparticles weresubject to ion-exchange with silver ions, the nanocomposite membranes acquire biocidalproperties. These hydrophilic and antibiotic membranes may be highly desirable for use indesalination and wastewater reclamation. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
