In this study, the photocatalysis process using a nano-sized TiO2 catalyst wasevaluated for natural organic matter (NOM) removal and membrane fouling control. Various doses of TiO2photocatalysts were used to treat waters containing up to 10 mg/L total organic carbon(TOC). Fouling behaviors of a microfiltration (MF) and an ultrafiltration (UF) membrane were assessed before andafter photocatalysis treatment using a low intensity submerged ultraviolet (UV) lamp. Relativeeffects on NOM removal of individual processes involved, i.e., UV oxidation, TiO2adsorption and UV/TiO2 photocatalytic oxidation were evaluated. Includes 9 references, figures.
