This powerpoint presentation presents alternatives for plant expansion, including:Expand Flocculation/Sedimentation(F/S) Basins and Add Filters;Upgrade Existing F/S Basins andExpand with Pressure Membranes; and,Upgrade Existing F/S Basins andExpand with Submerged Membranes. The Submerged Membrane alternative was selected because: it is thebest use of existinginfrastructure;lowest life-cycle costs;best planning for futureregulatory impacts; and, compatible with existingtreatment processes. Submerged membrane design, schematic layout, pretreatment-flocculation basin, pretreatment - rapid mix andscreening are presented. Important factors for submergedmembrane retrofit include:confirm depth of filter box for membrane rack;confirm space available in gallery for pipingand pumps;determine inlet channel/piping hydraulics;determine best option for backwash andCIP waste disposal; and, check compatibility of chemicals withmembranes. Membrane and filter side by sideoperating issues, solution - feed channel (short term), solutions-backwash waste sump, commissioning data, operating data, operations information after 18 months, unexpected results of adding membranes, and benefits of operating membranes andconventional filters are all presented. Includes tables, figures.
