This paper describes the testing of ultrafiltration membranes of hollow fiber and tubular configurations of two material types, ceramic and polymeric. These systems were tested in a continuous feed and blend mode in the cross-flow filtration configuration. This pilot program was designed to determine operating characteristics of these membrane systems on secondary treated effluent, for both the microfiltration and ultrafiltration size ranges, in order to specify a system for full-scale installation at the Mahopac and Brewster sewage treatment plants.
