This paper summarizes the history of the installation of Remote Chemical Sensors (RCS) throughout the Denver, Colorado, Water Department's distribution system. The six primary objectives of the project were: to identify RCS locations throughout the distribution system; to select and install the RCSs; to standardize sensors among the treatment plants and throughout the distribution system; to provide a calibration service for the RCSs; to transmit the RCSs' information to a centralized data system; and, to provide real time on-line monitoring of finished water chemical parameters.
