This study assessed trihalomethane (THM) variability in the water system of Northglenn, Colorado, using a two step process. Sampling was conducted to develop a statistical model of the relation between chlorine and THMs in the distribution system and computer modeling was used to develop a deterministic model of chlorine in the system. Combining the models yielded an estimate of THM concentrations within the system at the time of sampling in May and August, 1995. Results indicate good correlation of chlorine with THMs and consistently higher THM concentrations in the distal parts of the system. THM concentrations were also found to be higher in August than May, an observation consistent with previous studies.
