In the present study the potential use of in-situ reverse transcription for the detection of Escherichia coli and Cryptosporidium parvum has been examined. Elongation reactions were performed with species specific primers, directed against the 16S and 18S rRNA molecules respectively, and labelled deoxynucleotides. The results have shown that these reactions can be performed successfully inside the cell in just 102 hours.
