Drinking water in the Toronto area has historically shown a limited number of organic compounds detected at low Method Detection Limits (MDLs). The problem of chemical interference during the sample extraction process was not significant. A single neutral dichloromethane Liquid/Liquid Extraction (LLE) from 1 L samples was established to cover 10 types of Gas Chromatograph (GC) analyses for 218 semi-volatile target compounds. All 10 types of analyses were successfully accomplished using a single dichloromethane LLE from a 1L sample. This automated procedure had the advantage of reducing solvent usage and sample preparation time. The turnaround time for all 218 target compounds was 2-3 days for up to 11 samples.
