Contrary to wastewater reclamation and reuse in many other countries whereagricultural and landscape irrigation is a dominant application, Japan's waterreuse is decisively directed toward non-potable urban applications such as toiletflushing, environmental water, instream flow augmentation, and industrial reuse. The current practices of wastewater reclamation and reuse are surveyed. Lessonslearned from the Japanese water reuse experiences are summarized and presented inthis paper with respect to national policies, water reuse schemes, regulations, and costs of reclaimed water. Includes 5 references, tables, figure.
