The overall goals for this project presented on slides were: to provideguidance to water industry managers,based on a test with real assets, includingasset management options worthconsidering;performance measures worth tracking;benefits and costs of the options;for Management and forStakeholders;data development and maintenancecosts; and,recommendations on realisticstrategies for implementation. The research team and participatingutilities worked together throughout theproject to identify and evaluate theoptions being studied. An initial list of about 50 performancemeasures was used to select 7 measuresfor study by all of the partner utilities. Additional measures were studied ordocumented by some project partners. Each of the utilities was asked tocontribute data for a sample of up to 1,000assets. The presentation gives an overview of the three options beginning with the Basic Option which guides investment decisionsbased on service life concepts; the High-End Option uses weightedperformance measures to identify assetsmost needing attention; and, the Strategic Option identifies the impact ofvarious investment options on system value. The presentation further outlinesHigh-level findings regarding usefulness of options andmeasures for Distribution System Elements, along withfuture research needs for distribution systemelements.
