The objective of this study was to assess the effects of secondary disinfectants on internalcorrosion and water quality in copper piping under stagnant conditions. In particular, thisstudy evaluated the effects of free chlorine on copper release under a range of corrosioninhibition conditions. This consisted of bench scale studies that compared coppercorrosion in the presence and absence of chlorine. Further this project also explored theeffects of copper corrosion exposed to chlorinated drinking water under stagnantconditions on disinfectant byproduct (DBP) formation. Results revealed that free chlorine reduced copper corrosion;however, the copper that was released facilitated the formation of chlorinated disinfectant byproducts. Includes 17 references.
