This paper discusses several conservation scenarios that were developed for the three-county Central Puget Sound region as part of a regional effort to assess water supply and demand. The scenarios were developed by a Conservation Work Group, convened by the Central Puget Sound Water Suppliers' Forum. Four scenarios were produced, including: estimate of conservation measures already planned for implementation by utilities throughout the three-county region; estimated conservation savings that would be needed to keep summer season demand roughly constant from 2000 to 2020, despite projected population growth of 29 percent in areas served by water utilities; the objective of reducing total, regional summer season demand by 5 percent below 2000 levels; and, the objective of reducing total, regional summer season demand by 10 percent below 2000 levels. Results show that the collaborative process used to develop these scenarios appears to have improved consensus within the region on the boundaries for conservation and the issues that need to be addressed in order for existing conservation efforts to be enhanced. Includes 3 references, tables, figure.
