The Henderson Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) is a major treatment facility in the Las Vegas Valley serving the City of Henderson. The WRF Expansion project will increase the rated capacity of the plant from 20 million gallons per day (mgd) to 35 mgd beginning in 2002, with completion scheduled for 2006. The WRF Expansion will include a completely new treatment train designed to operate parallel to the existing treatment facilities and provide operational flexibility for discharge to the Las Vegas Wash or reclaimed water systems. The water quality impacts of reclaimed water demand were evaluated using a model that predicts the phosphorus waste load to the wash, the Bird Viewing Preserve, or turf irrigation sites. The model is based on a month-by-month projection of demands for the reclaimed water systems and the monthly waste load allocations written into the City's permit. This model allows the selection of various treatment alternatives within each train based on the blend of reclaimed water, groundwater recharge, and surface discharge. The impact of phosphorus loading is projected for both the Las Vegas Wash and the turf irrigation sites that are part of the system. The impact of constituents other than phosphorus is extrapolated from the results of this model. Includes tables, figures.
