Partnerships with two wastewater purveyors in the Valley found the Las Vegas Valley Water District, the potable water purveyor, obligated to deliver non-potable recycled water to 17 golf courses in the area. With responsibilities for the potable system having 34 reservoirs, 48 pumpstations, 100 wells and over 3,100 miles of pipeline being controlled around the clock at the central office by two operators, the challenge was how to provide another system that could be monitored by the same people without creating major demands on their attention. Recognizing that irrigation demands for the 17 courses would change daily, a system was needed to allow superintendent forecasts of demands, responsive even under variable weather conditions. A unique system using the Internet as a transmission link between golf course demands and system deliveries was devised and placed into operation. Includes figures.
