With Water Year 2006-2007 one of the driest in California history, with the ColoradoRiver Basin experiencing drought seven out of the last eight years, and with potentiallystringent new restrictions on pumping water through the Delta, the U.S. Bureau ofReclamation, (Reclamation), California Department of Water Resources (DWR), andCalifornia Urban Water Conservation Council (Council) joined forces to sponsor 11drought workshops and update the Urban Drought Guidebook. This paper summarizesproject activities, results, and recommended future actions. The paper focuses on howwater managers are responding through demand management to variability in thehydrologic cycle, particularly drought, focusing on recent conditions inCalifornia.
