The focus of this project is to conduct targeted sampling of drinking water sources that are potentially at risk of perchlorate contamination. The key tasks are: to identify perchlorate manufacturers or users across the country to evaluate the potential for perchlorate release to the environment; to rank the likelihood of perchlorate contamination in a water utility's source water; and, to conduct targeted sampling of those source waters most likely to be affected by perchlorate contamination. In addition to the targeted sampling, some efforts are directed toward nontargeted sampling from utilities across the nation where no specific point-source contamination is identified.
