A growing number of water utility customers are becoming more demanding in what they expect from their drinking water. Many people are becoming more educated and concerned about drinking water issues and are searching for solutions to drinking water problems, whether they are perceived or actual. Many new point-of-use (POU) and point-of-entry (POE) alternatives now exist for customers to satisfy their water treatment needs. How a utility selects these products is very important to the success of a supplemental water treatment program. This paper lists several issues and/or reasons why a utility may or may not want to consider offering a supplemental water treatment program, along with several issues to consider when selecting what type of equipment for satisfying specific treatment needs.
