Fresh Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts were spiked into 10 liters ofreagent or surface water, then followed by filtration using Envirochek (TM)filters, and IMS (immunomagnetic separation) using Dynabeads for determination ofmean recoveries. Two different fluorescent labeled antibodies were also evaluated,C. parvum and C. muris. Ten liters of river samples were collected by the IndianaDepartment of Environmental Management according to the EPA Method 1623instructions and analyzed within 72 hours. Escherichia coli was detected usingm-ColiBlue24 and C. perfringens were analyzed using modified mCP agar. Results ofindicator bacteria are presented and do not correlate with Cryptosporidium andGiardia concentrations in this study. Includes 8 references, tables, figure.
