This study combined in-depth analysis of site-specific solutions to arseniccompliance challenges faced by large groundwater systems and used these findings to estimate the national compliance costs associated with the regulation of arsenic in drinking water.The project objectives included: estimating the costs of lower arsenic maximum contaminant levels (MCLs), including MCL options of 2,3,5,6,8,10,12,15, and 20 ug/L; identifying the important constraints for meeting alternative arsenic standards at large groundwater systems; identifying the cost consequences of residual handling issues for arsenic control technologies applied to groundwater systems; evaluating the national cost sensitivity of lower arsenic MCL options when considering treatment applications for systems operating multiple entry points to the distribution systems. The study investigated the feasibility and cost of implementing arsenic control technologies at six very large groundwater systems. Includes 21 references, tables, figures.
