The use of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) instead of chlorine as a preoxidantfor a direct filtration plant was piloted for a period of 5 weeks. Target goals for the study included reductions in trihalomethane (THM) and haloacetic acid (HAA) concentrations, taste and odor control, maintaining the enhanced filtration effects of a preoxidant, and monitoring chlorite ion formation. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
