Marco Island is located in Collier County, on the southwest coast of Florida. InMay, 2000, the Marco Island Lime Softening Water Treatment Plant (LSWTP) wasexpanded from 5.0 to 6.67 million gallons per day (mgd) with the addition of a1.67 mgd immersed membrane ultrafiltration (UF) demonstration unit. This papersummarizes the results of the UF project that was implemented to evaluate theviability of a UF membrane process as a polishing step to conventional limesoftening treatment of hard and highly natural organic and colored surfacewater supplies.
