Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) was evaluated for its potential to control algal growthin an uncovered distribution reservoir that provides finished water to a largeservice area in the City of Los Angeles, California. ClO2 was applied duringselect summer and fall evenings beginning in 1998 to the Los Angeles Reservoir atdoses ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 mg/L as ClO2. Disinfection byproducts (DBPs) weremonitored in the reservoir and at the reservoir outlet before releasing thewater, and in the distribution system after operational clearance was obtained. The main findings involving ClO2 treatment are presented. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
