Using data from 25 state databases, the US Environmental Protection Agencyhas estimated that 12.1% of groundwater community water supplies have average arsenic concentrationsof above 5 ug/L. A breakout of these systems by size category shows that the majority of these systems are very small systems serving populations of between 25 and 3,300. This paper describes general treatment processes that are likely to be considered for treating groundwaters for arsenic removal. The processes are grouped into three categories: the Best Available Technology (BAT) listed technologies; conventional, but non BAT listed technologies; and emerging technologies. Includes 14 references, tables.
