The issue of recycle is becoming increasingly important across the U.S. and around the world as attention focuses on contaminants that may be present in recycle streams, such as Cryptosporidium. This paper reports on a project that was intended to define the treatment requirements of microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) backwash streams intended for recycle. Findings from the pilot study showed that with equalization, coagulation, and clarification, no accumulation of oocysts or aerobic spores would occur in the treatment of MF backwash water prior to recycle. Includes 3 references, tables, figures.
