Until now, utilities have not had an evaluation process to determine if they are ready for a taste and odor event in their system. As part of an American Water Works Association Research Foundation project, a taste and odor self-assessment tool has been created which utilities can use as a self-test of their readiness. The self-assessment tool has been created using the expertise of dozens of experts in the field of off-flavor management in water systems. This paper presents the key questions regarding taste and odor event readiness and the logic behind the questions posed to the user. This paper summarizes the components of the computer program and includes audience participation in a mock utility self-assessment. Includes 5 references, tables, appendix.
