The objective of this study was twofold. The first was to determine if the microcystin levels in water from water plants in the Midwestern United States exceeded the guideline limit of 1 ug/L set by the World Health Organization. The other objective was to determine where in the treatment processes were the Cyanobacteria being removed. Sample collection, storage, and preparation are covered, along with toxin analysis and method verification including filtration, spike recoveries, concentration method and reproducibility.
