The objective of this research was to determine whether solids found in drinking water distribution systems contain arsenic. Distribution system pipes and solids removed during hydrant flushing were collected and analyzed from the distribution systems of eight water utilities that had measurable levels of arsenic in their treated water. System selection, solid samples, sample collection and shipping, sample preparation, and acid digestion and ICP-MS analysis are discussed. Includes 5 references, tables.
