In this study computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to determine the local hydrodynamics induced by the impeller and evaluate the mixing efficiency needed for flocculation. The validation of the model has been performed by a comparison of experimental (pilot unit) and numerical residence time distribution (RTD), and the calculation from CFD of the power and pumping numbers related to the impeller type and the regime flow for the various cases. Includes 11 references, tables, figures.
