This paper presents a method that can be used by a single system or a group of systems toevaluate disinfection options for compliance with new disinfection byproducts regulations. The following generalsteps need to be followed in this type of evaluation using a water treatment plant simulationmodel:obtain up-to-date information on recent developments in disinfection and treatmenttechnologies, which are specifically applicable to the system being analyzed along withtheir unique constraints;perform a preliminary analysis of the technologies that might be suitable forimplementation by its member agencies; and, determine one or more alternatives that could be viable based on paper evaluation andconduct experimental evaluation to narrow the selection.A generic example is presented in the paper. Includes figures.
