The feasibility of using instrumentation for the detection of coliforms and E.coli inwater was assessed in this study. Three instruments were examined: the Colifast Microdetector, a hand held device; the Colifast Laboratory Analyzer, a laboratory analyzer;and, the Colifast AT-Line Microbial Monitor, an on-line detector. Early studies indicate that the hand helddevice may be useful for detecting high levels of contamination within 3-6 hrs. andmay also be useful for on site testing. The laboratory and on line instruments may beuseful for process control and can accurately detect 20 coliforms in 10ml of samplewithin 11 hrs. Includes 4 references, table, figures.
