The objective of this slide presentation was to identify the least cost application of granular activated carbon (GAC) and free chlorine for long-term disinfection byproduct (DBP) regulatory compliance and toevaluate the performance of GAC throughpilot scale and bench-scale work evaluatingGAC filter adsorbers andGAC post-filter adsorbers. Pilot testing of filter adsorbers wasconducted to simulate biological removal mechanisms as well as adsorption.Operating conditions were evaluated including:depth of GAC;carbon type, Bituminus vs. Lignite;empty bed contact time (EBCT); biodegradable organic carbon; and, filter operation, turbidity and particle count. Includes table, figures.
