The objective of this project was to characterize seasonal impacts on the reactivity of disinfection byproduct(DBP) precursors occurring in water distribution systems to gain a better understanding of the influence of organic matter (OM) on seasonal variationsof DBPs within distribution systems. In order to achieve this goal, DBP formation was studiedthrough a highly refined characterization of its precursors, resulting in a portrait of OMcharacteristics. Aspects of the methodology discussed in this paper include: sampling site selection; sample collection; sample concentration; organic matter fractionation; Trihalomethane (THM) and Haloacetic Acid (HAA) formation potential determination; and, physical and chemical parameter measurements. Includes 7 references, figures.
