The objective of this work was to study microorganism's retention capacityof clay-soil (86-97 % of clay) as a previous step to its use for depositing sludge from the wastewater treatment plants of Galicia, northwest of Spain. Soil was obtained from a clay extraction quarry in Xunqueira de Espadanedo(Orense, Spain). Prior to assays, soil was screened through a 2-mm meshsieve. Then, it was washed with distilled water and dried at 100 ºC/24h. Bacteria strains, bacteriophages, soil columns, and batch sorption experiments with bacteriophages are all discussed. Includes 14 references, tables, figures.
