This slide presentation outlines a study on nitrification occurrence in distribution systems. The problems that nitrification causes in distribution systems are outlined as related to: chloramine disinfection in distribution systems (DS), extra ammonia during chloramine formation, andammonia release from chloramine decay; and, nitrification is not desired in chloraminated drinkingwater distribution systems because of nitrite production, loss of disinfectant residual, andheterotrophic plate count (HPC) increase. Topics covered include: sedimentation/filtration; common experimental observations; logistic regression; pH models tested; multiple factor model; and, risk of nitrification based onmultiple factor model. Includes figures.
