The objective of this study was to develop a method for the detection of a large range of enteric viruses indifferent kinds of water samples, using a concentration method suitable for the detection of infectiousviruses as well as virus RNA. Five methods of concentration of enteric viruses from water and one RNAextraction were selected from the bibliography or developed in a laboratory and then were comparativelyevaluated by reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) on one PBS spiked sample. During those preliminaryassays, efficiency differences were noticed between the concentration protocols tested. Includes 46 references, tables.
