The objective of this study was to evaluate the development and use of disinfection byproduct (DBP) predictiveequations for the formation and control of DBP precursors in treated and reclaimed wastewater, impacting or being considered as a drinking water source. These equations, or some modifiedversions, could then be used to evaluate the fate and transport of DBP precursors in receivingwaters, as well as improvements at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) versus at a drinking water treatment plant (DWTP) to control wastewater-derivedDBP precursors. The samples were analyzed for a combination of wastewater and drinking waterparameters, including measures of natural organic matter (NOM), DBPs, and their precursors.Important water quality parameters included ammonia and bromide. NOM characterizationincluded dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and ultraviolet absorbance (UVA). The four regulated THMs were measuredusing US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 551.1. In addition, the ninehaloacetic acids (HAAs) were measured using USEPA Method 552.2. Includes 10 references, figures.
